Today is Earth Day 2015! A day when people all around the world come together to think about, share and act on ways to protect our planet and sustain a healthier life for us all. I’ll say Boop-Oop-a-Doop to that!
Did you know?…*
♣ The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970 – 45 years ago today!
♣ It was called an “Environmental Teach-In” and was intended to bring communities and organizations together to advocate for a healthier environment and a sustainable life for the future.
♣ It worked! The first Earth day energized 20 million Americans to get involved to protect our planet.
♣ From the actions of those first citizens came the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Act.
♣ Today, more than one billion people in 192 countries participate in Earth Day activities, making it the largest civic observance in the world.
Celebrate Earth Day 2015. Plant a tree. Reduce your energy consumption. Support environmental education. Reuse. Repurpose. Recycle!
